- On foot or by vehicle, patrols parking areas and issues citations for violation of a parking law. This includes:
- Recording license and parking space numbers, returning at the end of the legal parking time allotment to issue citations to violator.
- Issuing citations to vehicles parked at expired meters.
- Patrolling downtown free parking areas and recording all vehicle licenses, noting all frequently recorded numbers and investigating to determine place of residence or employment. Violators are served citations personally at their place of residence or employment.
Operates and drives a parking vehicle safely and legally. Cleans and performs some maintenance on parking vehicles.Assists with traffic control as needed. Performs community service by responding to questions with directions and assistance.Completes all required paperwork within established deadlines.Reports meter malfunctions and traffic hazards and may remove hazards from traffic.Responsible for abandoned vehicle complaints and follow-up as directed.Responds to Records or Municipal Court to resolve complaints and answer questions regarding parking enforcement and court dates. May include testifying in court.May occasionally give public presentations to community groups regarding parking enforcement practices and parking regulations.May occasionally perform duties of Records Specialist or other non-sworn department personnel based on the needs of the department.Conforms with all safety rules and performs work is a safe manner.Adheres to all City and Department policies.Delivers excellent customer service to diverse audiences.Maintains effective work relationships.Arrives to work, meetings, and other work-related functions on time and maintains regular job attendance. - Qualifications and Skills
- Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesAbility to gain knowledge of applicable Oregon and municipal laws relating to parking and traffic.Ability to relate well to a wide variety of individuals and groups, and to communicate effectively orally and in writing, including the ability to communicate effectively, including over the radio.Ability to get along well with coworkers, and the public, even in stressful situations, and maintain effective work relationships.Ability to efficiently operate a computer to perform the essential functions of the position.Ability to respond quickly to prospective hazards.Ability to work independently and without direct supervision.Special RequirementsAbility to meet L.E.D.S Introductory Level certification requirements.Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation including criminal history check and obtain an Oregon State Police Criminal Justice Information Systems clearance.Ability to obtain C.P.R. and First Aid and OC (pepper) spray training as determined and offered by the Department.Ability to pass medical examination that includes vision, peripheral vision and hearing tests as determined by the Department.Valid Oregon Driver's License and driving record that meets the standards set by the City of Corvallis.Demonstrable commitment to sustainability.Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.The individual shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of the individual or others in the workplace.Travel among City worksites.
