Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill 2-3 Peer Advisor positions for the College of Science (COS) at the Corvallis campus of Oregon State University (OSU).

COS Peer Advisors work to enhance the level of care and sense of belonging of STEM students at OSU and contribute to our program and mission in the Science Success Center.

We’re looking for people with a variety of experiences and interests who are willing to collaborate with our team, to participate in meaningful work serving current students, onboarding new students and improving current student experience in the College of Science. Regular in person work is required. There will likely be a few hours a week during the summer, and then a regular schedule during the academic year (eg., 6-12 hours).

Position Duties
  • Provide direct peer-to-peer support in navigating OSU and higher education
  • Connect with incoming and current students through events like Launch (new student orientation), welcome socials and study breaks
  • Make appropriate referrals and connect students to resources including: university processes, finding internships and research, study abroad, academic success resources, major advisors
  • Help students navigate BeaverHub, MyDegrees, and other OSU programs
  • Staff the COS Science Success Center Office main desk to foster a warm and inviting environment
  • Promote student success and community-building through direct support and advocacy
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with the Peer Advisor team as well as university/college departments, faculty, staff, and administrators

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term -
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term -

- International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

  • Be a current undergraduate with a major in the College of Science
  • Completed at least two terms at Oregon State University
