| Job Summary | The University of Portland School of Nursing & Health Innovations invites applications for Adjunct Instructors. This position is open on a continuous, on-going basis with positions filled as needed. Adjunct Instructors are hired on a per semester basis and teach assigned School of Nursing & Health Innovations (SONHI) courses, not to exceed six credit hours (or equivalent) per semester. Please visit the School of Nursing & Health Innovations website for information about the school. University of Portland School of Nursing & Health Innovations is currently looking for highly energetic, Nursing Clinical Faculty. The primary responsibilities for this role are supervising the nursing students in the clinical environment, evaluating student clinical performance, and grading all clinical assignments. Clinical faculty are assigned teaching responsibilities in a clinical area and are expected to contribute to the education of the students including psychomotor skills, standards of practice, and critical thinking. Adjunct faculty are accountable to the lead faculty of the assigned professional practice course, as well as the Director of the Center for Clinical Excellence. This description is a statement of minimum expectations and describes a level of performance expected of all clinical faculty. |

This description is a statement of minimum expectations and describes a level of performance expected of all clinical faculty. Core Duties Provide a supportive learning environment and facilitate effective student learning in the assigned clinical setting. Assist the students in integration of theory and practice, specific to the course learning activities and level of the learner. Provide adequate guidance for students in the clinical setting related to professionalism, practice, research and evidence-based practice. Select and organize learning activities which facilitate the student’s attainment of the course objectives. Evaluate student development of clinical reasoning skills through clinical practice and course assignments. Conduct ongoing and scheduled (mid-term & final) evaluation of student progression towards meeting course & program outcomes. Maintain effective, on-going communication with the Professional Practice Lead Faculty concerning student progress and/or concerns. Collaborate with other faculty and administration as requested. Maintain a cooperative, positive relationship with the staff of the assigned healthcare facility or community partner to facilitate the optimum learning environment for the students. Maintain current knowledge of the nursing curriculum, policies, and requirements. Maintain clinical competence and knowledge in area of expertise. Attend all required orientation, training and faculty meetings. Provide feedback to lead faculty related to course quality improvement and clinical setting effectiveness in supporting student accomplishment of the course and program outcomes. Attend all course team meetings Arrange and complete an orientation with the clinical site unit manager to learn the assigned clinical unit and meet the mandatory requirements of the clinical site. Assist in orienting students to the clinical site. Education & Experience Experience Required: Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree Required: Two plus years of RN experience Preferred: Master’s degree in Nursing Preferred: Minimum two years of teaching experience. Certifications & Licenses Required: Current unencumbered RN license in Oregon Required: Current certification in CPR Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Demonstrate commitment to continued professional learning. Demonstrated effectiveness in inclusive and student-centered teaching. Strong orientation towards continued learning and applying learning in the teaching environment. Evidence of a commitment to teaching and student mentoring. Ability to maintain confidentiality and effectively handle sensitive and personal information with sound judgment, tact, and discretion. Competence with and commitment to inclusive excellence; ability to be an effective partner with diverse students, faculty, and staff. Ability to establish effective working relationships, professional rapport, and effectively accomplish work within a University setting that includes a wide array of individuals, groups, policies, and processes. Effective ability to use and learn computers, technology, software, and applications at level of sophistication required for teaching duties including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), the internet, and learning and course management systems.
