What You’ll Do:
This position is ideal for a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) with UT Level II credentials and experience in structural or bridge fabrication. The Quality Control Technician will perform inspections and testing of welded assemblies, review documentation for compliance with AWS, AISC, and DOT specifications, and support fabrication teams in maintaining quality standards throughout production.
Key Responsibilities: Inspection & Testing
- Perform in-process, final, and visual inspections of weldments in accordance with AWS D1.1, D1.5, and D1.8.
- Conduct Ultrasonic Testing (UT Level II); Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) is a plus.
- Perform dimensional inspections and verify fabricated components meet project tolerances and specifications.
- Verify inspections conform to AWS codes, project specifications, and approved inspection plans.
- Verify materials, weld joint preparations, and WPS compliance per project requirements.
- Confirm material traceability markings including heat numbers, PO numbers, job numbers, grades, and sizes.
- Maintain welder qualification records and assist with performance qualifications as needed.
- Verify production processes adhere to approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQRs).
- Document inspection results and maintain traceable quality records.
- Identify and document Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and maintain related logs.
- Maintain inspection logs, trackers, and calibration records for tools and gauges.
- Assist in preparing Requests for Information (RFIs) related to weld or inspection issues.
- Review and interpret shop drawings, specifications, and special provisions from DOT and other clients.
- Participate in project-specific hold points, audits, and internal surveillance activities.
- Coordinate with fabrication, welding, project management, and third-party inspectors to support production and compliance.
- Support continuous improvement of QC processes and adherence to AISC Quality Management System requirements.

- Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential (required).
- UT Level II certification in accordance with ASNT SNT-TC-1A (required).
- MT Level II certification (preferred but not required).
- Minimum 3 years of experience in AWS D1.5 Bridge inspection.
- Strong knowledge of AWS D1.5, D1.1, D1.8, AISC, ASTM, and DOT specifications.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, and specifications.
- Strong documentation, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Commitment to safety and quality in all aspects of work.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. and able to pass background and drug screening.
- Familiarity with ODOT, Caltrans, or WSDOT project workflows.
- Experience with digital or Excel-based QA tracking tools.
- Exposure to coating inspection and SSPC standards is a plus.
- Exposure to Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies.
