Examples of Duties

The Tigard Public library is seeking an organized and innovative Senior Library Assistant to support our forward thinking and highly dedicated Circulation team. An ideal candidate for this position has a passion for working with the public, is a skilled communicator, thoughtful, attentive to detail, and works with a spirit of inclusive collaboration.

  • Coach staff though patron interactions and account issues as needed.
  • Interpret and answer questions regarding library circulation policies and procedures.
  • Assess daily workloads and direct workflow accordingly. Check on the completion and accuracy of work assigned.
  • Participate in or lead department projects as needed.
  • Perform opening and closing duties, including securing and un-securing the building, checking for staff and volunteer absences, and preparing work for staff and volunteers.
  • Perform clerical duties including running reports, recording statistics, and balancing cash drawer.
  • Serve as part of the Library’s Person In Charge (PIC) Team.
  • This role will not perform any Reader Services or Technical Services duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

  • Equivalent to a high school diploma AND
  • Two (2) years of experience in library services
  • Some lead experience (preferred)

Supplemental Information

Union Representation: SEIU

Schedule: 32 hours per week, including nights and a Saturday or Sunday
